Scotland in the EU Project 2025-2026

We are heading back to Brussels! On 23rd June 2026, members of Yes for EU and our partner organisation Europe for Scotland will meet with MEPs of various EU countries at the European Parliament. This is a follow-up from our 2025 visit (read on for more info), where we gathered, and later disseminated widely, evidence of MEPs’ support for independent Scotland’s EU membership.

Simultaneously, we are gathering outside the Scottish Parliament in Edinburgh from 11.45 for a 12 noon start, do join us if you can! There will be music and speakers and an upbeat atmosphere as we flag-up the prospect of a better future as an independent country in the EU. Read this article in The National to find out more.

This project kicked off on 9 April 2025 with a visit to the European Parliament in Brussels. Our delegation comprised Yes for EU Team members, Europe for Scotland representatives, former Scottish MEPs, and Scottish Indypodcasters. At the Parliament we met with several current MEPs from different EU countries and a number of advisors. We wanted to find out whether Scotland would be welcome back in the EU once we are an independent country. On our return to Scotland, we held a well-attended “report back” event on 9 May 2025 in Edinburgh, to celebrate Europe Day and the 75th anniversary of the Schuman Declaration. Scottish Government Minister Kaukab Stewart addressed the gathering, and journalist Assa Samaké-Roman chaired a panel session with former MEPs Heather Anderson and Alyn Smith. We shared the outcomes of the Brussels meetings, including distributing an 8-page pamphlet giving details of the project to all participants.

We are currently planning the next phase of this project and more details will be released soon so please bookmark this page!

The project is a collaboration between Yes for EU, Europe for Scotland and Scottish Independence Podcasts.
